Anti-Salmon Farming Groups Mobilize in Clallam County Washington to Oppose Cooke Salmon Expansion

After the disastrous collapse of the Cypress Island Cooke Net Pen in the San Juan Islands led to the escape of over 300,000 salmon last August, anti-farmed salmon sentiment has been building in Washington State.
Due to the concerns of the escape, Cooke asked that a September 9th hearing on their next expansion, proposed for a site 1 ½ miles offshore in the strait of Juan de Fuca be postponed, and county officials of Clallam county, which includes Port Angles, Washington, agreed.
However, anti-salmon farming groups wanted to go on record, and accordingly the county scheduled a special public meeting where testimony was taken on Wednesday, Nov. 8th. Because it was not a formal hearing, Cooke declined to participate.
