Russia to establish fish processing capacities on Kuril Islands on basis of raw materials from Japan
Russian leading fish producers have announced their intention to make the Kuril Islands one of the centers of fish processing in the country, that will take place through the building of large-scale fish processing facilities within the territory of the Islands.
These plans will be carried with the help Japanese investors and fishermans, that will ensure regular supplies of raw materials for the needs of new plants in exchange of further supplies of finished fish products to Japan.
A spokesman of the Russian Federal Agency of Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo) said the first of such projects will be implemented by Gidrostroy, one of Russia’s largest fish producers, owned by a well-known fish tycoon Alexander Verkhovsky.
