Steven Marx Replaces Roy Hyder as Oregon representative on the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council

For nearly two decades, Roy Hyder has served as Oregon’s representative on the Alaska-based North Pacific Fisheries Management Council. Hyder was the designee of Curt Melcher, the director of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and a permanent member of the Council. Hyder announced his resignation to Melcher last June but agreed to stay on until a replacement was found.
On September 8, Melcher announced that Steve Marx, former West Region Manager for ODFW, had agreed to take the Oregon seat on the Council. Marx retired from ODFW after 34 years at the end of June.
Marx was a field biologist, working on habitat enhancement protection and a fish biologist in the Upper Deschutes management for the first half of his career.
“For the last 15 years,” Marx said, “I’ve been the South Willamette Watershed District Manager implementing salmon and steelhead recovery plan.”...
