New Lobster Restrictions Considered in Southern New England as Stock Declines

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission is considering new lobster fishing restrictions Tuesday. The measures would be an effort to slow the population’s decline in New England.
Proposed amendments to rules include changing the harvesting size of lobsters and incorporating seasonal closures of fishing areas. Reducing the number of lobster traps allowed in the water is also up for a vote.
