SMAST Researchers, Gulf of Maine Fishermen Hope Video Survey System Will Produce Better Cod Surveys

Scientists from the University of Massachusett's Dartmouth School for Marine Science & Technology (SMAST) hope a new video monitoring system can provide fishery management officials with more accurate stock data of Atlantic cod in the Gulf of Maine.
Last week SMAST researchers and fishermen deployed a new video survey system that they said could provide more accurate measurements of the Atlantic cod population.
The system, collaboratively developed by scientists and fishermen over the last four years, was tested on Stellwagen Bank, a fishing ground located in the Gulf of Maine about 15 miles southeast of Gloucester and six miles north of Provincetown...
