SEAFOODNEWS.COM [Acadie Nouvelle] by Jean-Marc Doiron - December 7, 2016
We at SeafoodNews are deeply saddened by the death of Christian Brun. Our sympathies go out to his family, and also to all members of the Maritime Fishermen's Union. Christian was a good friend, and I had worked with him for years on lobster and snow crab issues in New Brunswick. He was always engaging, organized, and passionate about the fishery. Now, I miss him a lot, as I learned from our story below from Acadie Nouvelle that he had a great many interests outside of fisheries, including time in Africa and as a writer and poet and painter. We will never get to discuss these things. Monday, the day of the accident, was a sad day in Atlantic Canada, and for all of us involved in Canadian fisheries.
The Director General of the Maritime Fishermen's Union, Christian Brun, died in a car accident on Highway 11 in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Monday morning.
An employee of the UPM confirmed the news to the Acadie Nouvelle Monday afternoon.
The Miramichi Police Department issued a statement confirming that a man aged 46 of Cormier Village died in a two-vehicle accident in Lower Newcastle, on the road between Miramichi and Neguac.
A man aged 69 from Miscou was also killed in the collision. He was involved in the second car, a Kia Sportage. Both men died on the scene.
The news of the death of Mr. Brun has shaken all UPM staff...
