California Opens 50-mile Stretch to Dungeness Crabbing; Oregon Test Results Trickle In

Crabbers in California were notified Thursday they could set their gear at 6 a.m. today in the area between Point Reyes, 38° 00’ N. lat., and a line near Salt Point, 38° 34.5’N. Lat., an area previously closed due to elevated levels of domoic acid, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. This area includes Bodega Bay, where crabbers have had their pots ready to go for weeks.
The 18-hour pre-soak period will allow fishermen to set their gear and begin harvesting the crab at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.
