California Opens More Areas to Dungeness Crabbing; Others Remain Closed

Dungeness crabbers with California permits can set their gear today in the northern California area between the north jetty at Humboldt Bay, at Eureka, north to the Oregon/California border, for a 64-hour presoak period. They can begin harvesting on Dec. 1, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
State health agencies deemed the areas clear of elevated levels of domoic acid that have kept some areas closed.
A roughly 120-mile portion of the North Coast that was supposed to open Dec. 1 will remain closed, due to domoic acid levels, at the recommendation of state health agencies, the the CDFW announced Wednesday.
