Mid-Atlantic Scallop Season to Start One Month Later on April 1 Beginning in 2018

Beginning in 2018 the Mid-Atlantic sea scallop season will start one month later in April now that NMFS has passed a final rule that delays the start to the fishery.
NMFS published the final version of its Amendment 19 proposal to the Federal Register this week, which changes the start date to the East Coast scallop fishery from March 1 to April 1.
Federal officials said they wanted to push back the start the date to give government scientists and third-party researchers more time to collect stock data. The intent is to set harvest limits and other season specifications before the season starts and to reduce the need to make mid-season adjustments to the fishery...
