Atlantic States Commission Hikes Menhaden Quota Over 6% for 2017 Season

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) voted to raise the Atlantic menhaden quota over 6 percent for the 2017 fishing season to 200,000 metric tons.
This upwards adjustment was based on scientific assessments of the stock that concluded the fishery is not overfished. In fact, a Technical Committee analysis concluded the hike in the quota would have a zero percent probability of resulting in overfishing.
