Russia expects a record salmon catch this year. The volume of salmon catch in Russia this year may set a new record for the last 7 years and exceed the figures of 2014 by 25%, according to recent statements of Russian Rosrybolovstvo.
However, the 25% jump over 2014 (the last even year for pinks) also is resulting in a strong push by the Russian government to keep this fish for the domestic market.
According to forecasts of Rosrybolovstvo, total salmon catch in Russia this year will significantly exceed 400,000 tonnes. The growth of catch is currently observed in the majority of areas of the Russian Far East region, except Sakhalin.
In the case of Kamchatka, the volume of catch this year is expected to reach 220,000 tonnes, which is almost 30% higher the figures of 2014..
