Newfoundland Reorganizes Ministries to Reduce Gov't Costs, Fisheries adds Forestry and Agrifoods

Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced a major provincial government reorganization that has resulted in the merger of five departments, eliminating the positions of five deputy ministers. In the Newfoundland government, the deputy minister is the top civil servant in charge of a ministry, while the political appointee as minister changes quite frequently.
The Dept. of Fisheries and Aquaculture will now become the Dept. of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agrifoods. The goal is to align the renewable resources in the province as important contributors to rural Newfoundland and to economic growth.
