Rabobank Says Brazil's Aquaculture Sector May Reach 500,000 tons of Tilapia in 4 Years

A new Rabobank report on Brazil's Aquaculture sector says that domestic demand is now driving local production.
The bank says that tilapia production is increasing 10% per year, and will reach 490,000 tons by 2020. In addition, a local freshwater fish called tambaqui is becoming more cultivated, and total tonnage should reach 330,000 tons by 2020.
The growth of domestic aquaculture is partly due to Brazilian grain production, because abundant supply and poor logistics for export are keeping prices low.
For the period from 2010 to 2014, seafood imports grew strongly, but fell in 2015 once the currency devalued and the economic crisis hit....
