Bristol Bay Reaches and Exceeds ADF&G Pre-Season Forecast

As of two days ago, the total run (catch and escapement) of Bristol Bay sockeye had reached 45,964,457 salmon, so it’s a safe bet that the Alaska Department of Fish & Game’s forecasted 46.55 million has been met by now.
Cumulative catches of all five river systems in the Bay last Wednesday were 34,744,736 salmon, far above the forecasted 29.52 million catch prediction. Escapement totals as of Wednesday, however, were below the 15.31 million salmon predicted, at 11,219,721 salmon. Those escapement totals will have increased by today and could exceed the forecast yet.
The University of Washington’s Fisheries Research Institute's (FRI) forecast for the run was 50.9 million fish, slightly larger than ADF&G's and the second biggest by FRI. The main difference between the two forecasts was FRI estimates more 2.2 age class sockeye...
