ASMI Board Approves $17 Million Budget for FY2017; Plans to Attend Brussels Show

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute’s Board of Directors approved a pared-down budget of $17 million last week for FY2017, starting July 1, 2016.
The group also elected Jack Schultheis of Emmonak, AK as chairman and Allen Kimball of Trident as vice chair. Schultheis has served on the board since 2007.
The budget is the leanest in decades for the award-winning marketing arm and now certification standards owner for Alaska’s seafood industry. In the past five years, ASMI’s annual budget has ranged from $19.8 to $24 million.
The new budget will maintain consumer public relations at the current year level, retail and foodservice at 4% below current year level. Consumer advertising was eliminated, as recommended by industry committees and ASMI staff.
